CURRENT AFFAIRS | 15 JULY 2026
One ride, one nation, one salute. On 14 July 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the ‘Shaurya Vijay Yatra’ — a commemorative motorcycle expedition from the National War Memorial in New Delhi to the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh.
The 13-day ride is a tribute in the run-up to Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July. Around 28 riders — serving and retired defence personnel along with family members — will cover roughly 1,900 kilometres through the demanding terrain of the northern Himalayas.
In a moving gesture, the riders carry an urn holding sacred soil from the National War Memorial, to be offered at Kargil in memory of the fallen. En route they will pay homage at memorials such as Chandimandir, Rezang La and Leh, and felicitate Veer Naris — the widows of martyrs.
The expedition will culminate at the Kargil War Memorial on 26 July, honouring the courage and sacrifice that secured victory in the 1999 Kargil War.
