The 60th Jnanpith Award (for the year 2025) has been conferred on the celebrated Tamil poet, lyricist and novelist Dr R. Vairamuthu. He is the third Tamil writer ever to receive India’s highest literary honour — after P.V. Akilan (1975) and D. Jayakanthan (2002) — and the first to be honoured primarily for Tamil poetry.
