DAILY NEWS WRAP | 20 OCTOBER 2026
India took the top two places in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final at the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on 19 October 2026. Mona Agarwal won the gold with 250.0, a new Games record, and Avani Lekhara won the silver with 249.6.
How the final was decided
The margin was just 0.4 points. With the final shot, Mona scored 10.8 and Avani 10.5. Mona had also set a qualification record of 629.1 earlier in the event. Her final score of 250.0 beat the previous Asian Para Games record of 249.6, which Avani Lekhara herself had set at the Hangzhou Games (the 2022 edition, held in 2023).
Who the two shooters are
Avani Lekhara is a two-time Paralympic champion in this event, winning gold at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. Mona Agarwal won the bronze in the same event at Paris 2024, where both Indians were on the podium. A 1-2 finish at a continental Games therefore continues a pattern that began at the Paralympics.
The Games and the class
The Asian Para Games are held by the Asian Paralympic Committee in the host city of the Asian Games, after the main Games. Earlier editions were held in 2010 (Guangzhou), 2014 (Incheon), 2018 (Jakarta) and 2022 (Hangzhou, held in 2023), so Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is the 5th. In para shooting, SH1 is the class for athletes who can hold the rifle without a support stand; the event code “standing” tells you the shooting position.
